Sts. Peter & Paul is an active and thriving church community. There are many opportunities for our parishioners to become involved. We rely on our many volunteers who have already responded to their call to ministry. We sincerely thank them for their unselfish giving.

Liturgical Ministries

The Liturgy Committee guides the ministries listed below according to the regulations of the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Rockville Centre, while meeting the goals of our parish.

The EUCHARISTIC MINISTER assists in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist during weekday, weekend and Holy Day liturgies and must possess a spirit of prayerfulness and reverence. The Eucharistic Minister may also take Holy Communion to home-bound Catholics and those who are ill and/or hospitalized and unable to attend mass at our parish. Initial and follow-up training is required.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD or LECTORS proclaim the Word of God during weekday, weekend and Holy Day liturgies. Anyone who wishes to become a lector must possess the ability to read well in public and proclaim God's Word effectively. Training and ongoing support is provided.

ALTAR SERVERS assist the priest and deacon during weekend and Holy Day liturgies. Boys and girls, third grade and older, are invited to become altar servers. Initial training sessions are required.

The MUSIC MINISTRY enhances the assembly's full and active participation at parish liturgical celebrations. 
The CANTOR leads the music at liturgical celebrations. 
CHOIR MEMBERS and INSTRUMENTALISTS support the Cantor in music. 
Musical skills are helpful for choir member and cantor and required for instrumentalists.

The CHILDREN'S CHOIR participates bi-monthly during 11AM masses and is comprised of children in grades 3 through 8. The children meet weekly to prepare.  

MINISTERS OF HOSPITALITY or USHERS are men and women serving the assembly by creating an atmosphere of welcome and hospitality as people enter our church. They distribute hymnals and worship aids, assist with the collection and help with the preparation and Communion processions during Mass.

Members of the ENVIRONMENT and ART committee assist in creating an atmosphere for prayer within and around church grounds for worship, by designing, assembling and disassembling seasonal decorations and plant care.

Faith Formation

CATECHUMENATE TEAM members assist adults and children throughout the RCIA process.
RCIA - the Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults and Children is a process of study, exploration and faith formation for non-baptized adults and children (over the age of seven) who desire to be fully initiated into the Roman Catholic Church. This also pertains to baptized Christian adults who desire full communion in the Roman Catholic Church. 

CATECHISTS assist parents with their sacred responsibility of forming and educating their children in the Catholic faith and prepare children for the Sacraments of First Eucharist, First Reconciliation and Confirmation. Grades 1 through 9 meet in a catechist's home. Training and materials are provided.

The BAPTISMAL TEAM assists parents and god-parents as they prepare for having their child baptized. Meetings are conducted at the church on an as-needed basis and conclude with the child's baptism.

The MARRIAGE TEAM or PRE-CANA MINISTRY assists engaged couples in marriage preparation. Classes are conducted at the church on an as-needed basis and conclude with a special blessing at a weekend mass.

ULTREYA CORE COMMITTEE members plan and prepare monthly witness and prayer sessions for those who have attended or are interested in attending a Cursillo weekend, a short intense retreat.

Social Ministries

FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS assist families, seniors and others in our community who are in need. Volunteers share two to three hours per week to organize food, stock shelves and distribute supplies.

HOLIDAY DISTRIBUTION VOLUNTEERS meet in October to plan for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. They separate and pack food and gifts for needy families and assist in carrying bags to their vehicles.

Members of the ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY support our neighbors in finacial need. We have access to support programs and resources that can help regardless of demographics including creed.

The MINISTRY OF CONSOLATION assists the bereaved in liturgy planning for the funeral liturgy and other practical details.
CONSOLATION CAKE BAKER Committee members work in conjunction with the Consolation Ministry. Cakes or other baked goods are prepared and brought to the location where the family meets with Consolation ministers.

The PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY meets once each month to knit and crochet prayer shawls, chemo caps, hats, gloves, lap blankets, Christmas Stockings, Christmas Angels for fundraisers, and other requested objects which are distributed to those who request. Recipients have included, but not limited to: nursing home patients, sick and home-bound, premature infant and homeless shelters. Some skill is recommended, but can be taught, if you would like to learn. Yarn donations welcome.

MINISTRY TO THE SICK brings Holy Communion to the homebound, sick and area hospitals. Eucharistic ministry training required. Training is provided by the diocese.

DIVORCED AND SEPARATED CATHOLICS provide support for those who are experiencing the loneliness, guilt and pain of being separated or divorced. Monthly meetings are held in the church.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE members inform and educate the community on ways to protect and enhance all life and includes issues related to the unborn, the handicapped, the infirmed, the elderly, the dying, racism, immigration, gun control, genocide, war and other human dignity issues.

Support Ministries

The FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE  was formed to assist the parish with fundraising programs while fostering and promoting community and parish spirit, through a variety of activities. New fundraising ideas and new committee members are welcome.

The Fundraising Committee meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in the Rectory basement.

YOUTH MINISTERS assist the Director and Assistant Director of the Youth Ministry. The Youth Group provides an opportunity for students in Grades 7 - 12 to join together for guidance, support and to learn our faith through meaningful and fun activities.

The Youth Group meets every Wednesday from 5:30 - 6:30 PM in the Rectory basement.

MONEY COUNTERS assist in counting the collections following weekend liturgies. Training is provided.

The CLEANING COMMITTEE ensures that the church is neat and tidy by vacuuming, dusting and light cleaning.

ALTAR MINISTRY volunteers wash and iron the linens used for liturgies.

COFFEE HOUR COMMITTEE members prepare and serve refreshments after the Sunday 9AM and 11AM Masses when scheduled.
